This week I talked to a Client in Paris, France. Andrea was stressed about her little rattie Chu, he had to have a lump removed and everything went well, but then he pulled off his bandage and ripped out two stitches. Andrea and Chu had to go to an emergency vet and get Chu restitched. Andrea had to put a restraining bandage on Chu at night when she can’t verify that he won’t bite at his wound…
Andrea told me, “It’s awful because I know he suffers with the bandage and the itching and I’m so worried he’ll bite his wound again and open it. I have to put the bandage on but I’m terrified it’ll hurt him, I feel like he must think I’m torturing him even though I do it out of love.”
I let Chu know that Andrea had the lump in his abdomen removed so that he would feel and move better. He is expected to have a great recovery as long as he doesn’t bite the stitches and the wound. Chu thought he was taking care of himself when he bit at the stitches. He said that the stitches are foreign material and they shouldn’t be sticking to him (like gum). He found out that it did not help to try to remove the stitches because then he opened the wound. I let him know that the stitches will be removed in a week as long as he doesn’t bite them again. He was relieved to hear that the stitches are short term. He thought he would have them on him unless he chewed them off.
I also let Chu know his itinerary for the Spring Season. Chu will be going on a trip to Africa with Sam, Andrea’s boyfriend on May 7 (explained to Chu as seven sleeps. Animals don’t understand our calendar, and they can only comprehend about seven days into the future). I let Chu know that when in Africa, he will have his own room. Chu sees his room as the Taj Mahal and he feels very special that he will have such up-scale accommodations. (He’ll have his own room because there are cats in the house but I did not tell him that). I also let Chu know that Andrea will be going to the UK when he and Sam go to Africa. After her visit in the UK, she will meet up with them in Africa. Chu is very happy to be part of his family’s spring plans.
