Speaking to the Animals – Meet Molly

September 29, 2017 by Lynn Schuster 5 Comments

A few years back, I received a call from a woman who was trying to load her horse, Molly into the horse trailer. Karen was frantic and asking for help. She had been trying to get Molly into the trailer for over an hour and both Karen and Molly were wide eyed, sweaty and spooked. It was apparent that Molly simply was not going into that trailer. Karen told me that Molly had been with her for a year and that she had loaded perfectly when she picked her up to bring her to her farm.
Karen wanted to load Molly so she could take her to the fair grounds. Karen’s daughter, Megan, was planning to show Molly in the Halter Class at the fair the next day so they thought they’d do a practice run.
I connected with Molly and asked her why she was afraid of getting into the trailer. Molly told me that she was afraid that she did something wrong and that she was being sent back to her former home. I reassured her that she had not done anything wrong and that, in fact, Karen was so proud of her that her daughter, Megan wanted to show her off at the fair.
I asked Molly if I could show her the plan. I imagined that I was there with Karen, Megan and Molly. In my imagination, I walked onto the trailer and Molly walked in calmly after me. (Of course, I had carrots for her and once we got her situated I gave her the carrots). In my mind’s eye, I saw Karen and Megan get into the truck and we drove around the country block back to Karen’s farm. We unloaded Molly and took her into her stall and fed her her dinner. We did the same routine again, and then one more time…third time’s a charm.
Next, in my mind’s eye, we loaded Molly into the trailer and went to the fair grounds. We unloaded and pretended that Megan and Molly were in the arena and that they were participating in the Halter Class. Megan showed Molly how much she adored being with her and how proud she was of Molly. We loaded Molly back onto the trailer, went back to Karen’s farm, unloaded and fed Molly her dinner in her stall.
The next day, Molly walked right onto that trailer, went to the fair and even placed in the Halter Class! Both Megan and Molly had a great time and they placed higher than two other horses that were picked to win! They came home with a Second Place Ribbon!!

Thank you Betsy! This is one of the stories I think I will always remember. Molly was so amazing and so were her people! It surely is a remarkable testimony to animal communication!
