Moving to a new home can be stressful for both humans and our animal companions. A few months ago, Katie contacted me after she had ended the relationship with her fiancé. She and her kitten, Emily moved out of that home and into an apartment.
Katie asked me to connect with Emily. “I think she is going through some things and because this change has been stressful, I can’t connect with her like I normally do,” Katie explained.
“Emily was attached to both my fiancé and I and wanted cuddle time with each of us every day. Since we moved, there are different noises in the house and it is difficult for Emily to relax. She has tried to cuddle with me only once since we moved here three weeks ago. She loves the fact that we have carpet vs. wooden floors, and she’s getting much more exercise. She doesn’t like clutter, but almost everything has found it’s place and the house is in order now. I am wondering if she is missing my fiancé or wondering why she isn’t seeing him.”
After looking at Emily’s photo, I closed my eyes, imagined her photo in my mind’s eye and stated, “My intention is to speak with Emily.” When I saw her animated (or moving), I knew I had a connection with her. From there, we could have a conversation, just like I would have with humans.
Emily told me that the fear she had been feeling stemmed from her experience of being displaced and lost when she was a kitten. She went on to say that in her home of origin, she felt the misunderstanding and distrust that the humans had for each other, and as a very small kitten, somehow she got separated from her mother, and found herself alone outside. She strayed from her home and she felt relieved when someone found her wandering down the country road.
Emily was way too young to be outside without the protection of her mother or a human guardian. The fear of the giant world was overwhelming. She didn’t know how to get home again and that fear stopped her in her tracks. The more she looked around the more lost she felt. The analogy that she showed me was of a very small child separated from her mother in a grocery store. Emily asked me to imagine how much higher the shelves would look if I was viewing them from the eyes of a toddler. The items on the shelves, with all the different shapes and colors would overwhelm the toddler. This is how Emily felt when she was alone on the country road. She became overwhelmed and fear gripped her heart in such a way that she lost her innocence and her sense of safety.
When Katie and Emily moved out of their house and away from the man, the experience brought up the memory of being lost as a kitten and the fear of it happening again overwhelmed Emily’s heart.
Whenever I feel the discomfort of the animals, I call on my Reiki skills. I began sharing Reiki with Emily, and I felt the loving energy pour out of my hands and move toward her.
I asked Emily if she was willing to release the fear from her past so that she can feel love and safety in the present moment. We all have our life lessons and free will, so before I make any suggestions about healing, I ask for permission.
To help Emily release fear, I asked her if we could go back to the time when she was a kitten. We imagined her with her mother and her litter mates. Rather than concentrating on the fear, I asked her to feel love. I asked Katie to breath deeply with me. Breathing in love, exhaling love, and feeling love for Emily. Many times when I do healing work with the animals, I imagine us going to a neutral healing space, and this experience was no different. I imagined Emily and I sitting on a White Light blanket in a place in nature. We imagined Emily with her mother and litter mates in a warm and comfy home until she was weaned and it was time for her to be adopted by Katie. My goal was to help Emily release fear from her cellular memory. I believe all of us both human and animal, hold every experience in the cellular memory of our physical bodies. What if we send love to our memories and imagine an alternative memory filled with that Love and Light? In this way, it is possible to forgive ourselves and others for past digressions.
As we breathed deeply and imagined a beautiful and loving space, I could feel the fear leave Emily’s body as love came into her heart. My favorite part of Animal Communication is feeling my heart opening. So much loves flows through me; my physical body can’t contain it, and the love flows out of my eyes in the form of tears.
Emily told me that she loves her girl very much. (Our animals don’t call us by our names, they call us he, she, her, him, my girl or my boy) Emily did not have to say the words to describe love, instead, I felt Emily’s love flow through my heart. She does not want to be separated from her girl. Her girl gives her comfort and Emily feels that Katie’s role is one of a warrior and protector, similar to the role her mother played in her life when she was a kitten. During the move, Emily was afraid that her girl would misplace her and that she’d end up out on the road again. We assured Emily that she is in her forever home. She will always be with Katie no matter where in the world they live.
